Diaper Bag

I decided to make myself a ring sling and matching diaper bag. I think they came out pretty good. I used information that I got from Jan Andrea's site, as well as a few others, to come up with the sling that I made. I went to makebabystuff.com and found a great tutorial for a diaper bag, that I could customize for myself.

Here are some pictures of my sling and my diaper bag (made from duvet material I found on clearance). I have decided to make a no sew sling until I determine exactly what type of rings I want to use. I am waiting on a variety pack of rings from slingrings.com, when I get those and finish figuring everything out, I'll show it all to you.

More t-shirts

Today we visited the UTZ factory and had a picnic afterwards. It was a fun relaxing day. I think the girls really enjoyed it all. There is nothing more refreshing then doing something so simple like going to a park and seeing your kids run around with huge smiles on their faces!

I have tried that t-shirt dress with no avail. Its too embarrassing for a picture. So, I started thinking about what else I could do with old t-shirts. How about making a rag doll or even covering a corkboard with the shirt, crisscrossing it with ribbon and turning it into a memo board. Of course you could always go the simple way and turn them into pillows. Oh, that really sounds like some fun. Shirt pillows, should they be square or should they be shaped like a shirt? I think kids t-shirts would work the best, they are just the right size! I can't wait to try that one out!

Fathers Day

Tomorrow morning is Fathers day, and we have to do something very special for our Dad's. My sister was very creative and her children made a miniature (3 square) quilt with their drawings on it. My kids haven't made anything. Its now 9:30 and I don't even have a card yet. I probably should get off the computer and get the kiddos to make Daddy something really quickly. There really isn't much you could make that quickly. Hmmmm, I'll just go and ask the kids. Time to scoop up some paper and markers and get working. Maybe we can come up with something nice. T-Shirts again

We had a really nice weekend. I went to my cousins wedding shower and it was really nice. On Sunday we were able to go shopping and bought Sammy her first swing. It's so cute, she loves swinging! Tomorrow is Emily's last day of school and soon summer will officially be here. I am looking forward to having lots of fun this year!

I am interested in finding ways to upcycle old t-shirts. In an old post of mine, I showed you how to quickly turn them into shopping bags. Now, I have an idea as to how to make them into a simple child's dress or tunic top. I am going to work on that this afternoon/evening and let you see what I come up with. Hopefully it works out!

Pinwheel Garden

We had some pretty wicked storms yesterday afternoon and Megan was pretty scared. Now she doesn't want to go outside at all. Poor thing, I thought that if we did a little craft together that was to play with outdoors that it just might help her a bit. So, now that she is out of her bath, my bathroom floor is soaked, and she is wearing Emily's dress. We will eat some breakfast and start working on our Pinwheel garden. This is going to be so much fun!

Materials:
Paper (cardstock preferred)
Scissors
Tape
Straight Pin
Pencil with eraser

1. Print template out on desired paper, thicker paper works better. You may simply copy the template instead of printing it.
2. Cut on solid lines.
3. The circles represent the points that are to be folded (no creasing). Fold over each circle onto the center circle one at a time and tape it. Once you have done this 4 times, you will have a pinwheel shaped paper.
4. Pierce a sewing straight pin through the middle taking care to go through all 4 layers. Continue pushing the pin into a pencil eraser or another soft object such as a taper candle.

Save that shirt

Have you ever had that t-shirt that you didn't want to get rid of because it was just to special to you? I have, bags full of them!! I had one little t-shirt of my daughters, a little frog shirt. She loved it and was so adorable in it. She then committed the crime of all crimes, and grew. :( Why do they do that! Anyway, now that the shirt is to small I had to do something to hold on to it. After searching the net a bit and realizing that t-shirts do not fray, I found that I could very easily turn it into a purse/shopping bag. Here's how....

Materials:
old t-shirt
Sewing machine or needle and thread
scissors

1. Turn your t-shirt inside out.
2. Sew straight across the bottom. (take care not to sew through the print on the front)
3. Turn right side out.
4. Cut off sleeves and neck as seen in the diagram. You can fold the shirt in half lengthwise to make your cuts even.
